GOALS

Together with great ape experts, we are planning to do the Green List Assessments for all great ape species. For this, we will use population trends data stored in the A.P.E.S. Database in order to map population size increases, range expansion, and improved population health. This information is crucial for evaluating the effectiveness of conservation efforts and identifying species that are experiencing recovery.

What’s more, the A.P.E.S. Wiki documents conservation initiatives that have contributed to great ape population recovery, including habitat protection, community engagement, anti-poaching efforts, and sustainable livelihood programs. This information will serve as valuable examples for other conservation projects and demonstrate the potential for positive outcomes. Thus, by showcasing successful conservation cases for great apes, the IUCN Green List, in collaboration with the A.P.E.S. Database and Wiki, encourages the adoption of effective and sustainable approaches.
